Colo. officer, 27, shot while attempting to serve fugitive warrant, authorities say.
LIMON, Colo. -- Authorities say 27-year-old police officer Jay Sheridan has been shot to death and a suspected fugitive has killed himself during a standoff in eastern Colorado.

At a post-midnight news conference, State Trooper Heather Cobler said that officers were serving a warrant at a residence at the Wagon Wheel Mobile Home Park at about 6:10 p.m. when the man they were serving opened fire.
She says Limon police officer Jay Sheridan was shot by the suspect as officers attempted to serve him with a fugitive warrant. Limon police officers and Lincoln County Deputies went to the mobile home park at the request of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve a fugitive warrant and that's when Sheridan was fatally shot, according to police.
Jim, the manager of the Limon Mobile Home Park, told 9NEWS he rented the trailer where the shooting took place to Mark Hasting and Jackie Hasty. Jim asked that his last name not be used for security reasons. Jim says Hasting and Hasty were common-law husband and wife. Hasting was also an ordained minister and a Vietnam vet, according to what he told Jim.
Earlier video from Airtracker7 showed a SWAT team deployed in the park and large number of law enforcement vehicles stationed around the trailer park. Agencies called to the scene to assist included Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Corrections, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Parker Police Department, Aurora Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (SWAT).
At 10:40 p.m., Cobler said, SWAT officers from Douglas and Elbert counties entered the residence and found the suspect's body.
